LUXOR
On the Monday we transferred to Cairo Airport and flew down to Luxor where we were met and taken by coach to our ship for the week, the MS Hamees.
The Valley of the Kings
This morning we visited the Valley of the Kings. It is situated in a secluded area of the West Bank and contains 62 excavated tombs. Moswt of them are royal but some are for members of the nobility. They are all slightly different in style but almost all of them contain painted scenes and inscriptions that were meant to help the King in his journey through the underworld.

The Valley of the Kings was breathtaking! We went into four tombs including the tomb of Rameses VI (KV9) which was extremely impressive. The ceiling was awesome with a giant painting of the Goddess Nut that stretches right across the vaulted ceiling and contains the day and the night. In the evening she swallows the sun and in the morning it is reborn. You can see Greek and Roman graffiti in many places in the tomb. The colours were just amazing, especially when you consider this tomb was for a king that reigned 1141 -1133 BC!
This place was just amazing and shows the power of women!
